Eternal Torment In Hell: Is It Biblical?

Is eternal torment in hell the final destination of lost sinners? I have already listed numerous scriptures that contradict this teaching in my article titled, “Is Hell Eternal?” And, at the end of this article, I will provide a “link” that presents literally dozens of texts that prove without a doubt that this doctrine of eternal torment is contradicted by the overwhelming weight of biblical evidence.

We will begin with a few scriptures that clearly teach the destruction and death of the wicked, rather than their eternal torment. In Psalm 145:20 God affirms that he preserves all who love him, but that to destroy the wicked The Hebrew word used for destroy in this text is “chamad”. this word, chamadalso used in Psalm 37:37-38, where God declares that a wonderful “future” awaits the honest and good, but also states that the wicked will be destroyed (“shamad”), and shall have no future. Why are we labeled as such? Because we maintain that God does not torture people forever, but actually does annihilate to hellfire, based on the enormous amount of biblical evidence that supports our position. After all, we just saw that this is exactly what God teaches us in the Bible. Therefore, I have “good company” in my belief, because God himself is also one annihilationist.

Proponents of the doctrine of eternal torment wonder why God would cast sinners into eternal fire if they are not going to suffer there forever; further, they question why the Bible repeatedly refers to hellfire as everlasting or eternal, if sinners experience only a limited time of suffering in it.

To begin with, this frequent emphasis on the fact that the fire of hell will never be quenched gives sinners the clear and forceful message that they are condemned to die in this fire “This fire doesn’t go out, so they don’t get out alive.” However, arguably the main reason why the Bible repeatedly refers to hellfire as eternal is because that’s the exact thing description of the fire. It’s an eternal fire! God accurately describes the duration of hellfire. Do eternal torment advocates want God to use different, misleading language to describe it? It is certainly not God’s fault that theologians have taken the duration of hellfire and then applied that duration to everything that is thrown into the fire.

The fact that things are thrown into a particular fire does not require that the same items continue to burn for the duration of the fire. If you’ve told your friends to come over to your house to enjoy an all-day bonfire in your backyard roasting hot dogs and marshmallows on a fall day, that means everything they throw on your bonfire will burn for all day, just because you are? making fire all day? Absolutely not! During the day, you’ll probably throw in some small twigs and branches that are consumed in minutes. You can also throw away some paper or plastic plates and cups from your meal, which will literally be consumed in seconds. And there will certainly be logs in the fire that will burn for hours before being completely consumed and gone. How long each item burned was determined by the composition of each element. God is making an eternal fire, but that does not mean that everyone who is put in that fire will burn eternally. As with my all-day campfire example, the length of time it burns before it is completely consumed and gone will be determined by its “sinful composition.” The more sin there is, the longer they will burn.

This brings us back to the other question that eternal torment advocates ask. As I mentioned earlier, they wonder why God would throw sinners into the same eternal fire that He uses for the devil, otherwise they will also suffer eternally there. I have a very logical answer to your logical question. How many hellfires would God have to kindle to deal with the different lengths of punishment? It should have a fire of a day for some; a week’s fire for others more guilty; a month’s fire for those who still have more sin; a year’s fire for those who had an abundance of sin; a ten-year fire for those who committed heinous sins against numerous people; and a seventy-year fire for those who are in a class by themselves, spend most of their lives murdering and torturing, like Hitler and Stalin? I believe God’s plan is much better. Use the same fire to deal with all the varying durations of punishment. And it makes him eternal because he is preparing for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41), who are eternal beings, as explained in the following paragraph; moreover, so that I can torment them “justly” for all eternity, because they were the ones who originated sin on this planet and are responsible for billions of people losing the opportunity to have eternal life in heaven . Therefore, fire must be eternal; a “logical fire” to handle all punishment durations.

If the duration of hell were limited to a billion years, based on an average life of seventy-five years, our fair and just God would be punishing people 30,000 years for every moment they lived in the land And, remember, this is not a light and easy punishment; this is an agonizing torment in the flames of hell that produces weeping and gnashing of teeth. Also, this 30,000 year per minute punishment is based on a billion year duration for hell. However, the teachers of this doctrine say that the torment of lost sinners in hell is not limited to one billion years, but will continue throughout the billions of billions of years of eternity. Therefore, the torment will eventually become millions and billions of years for every moment lived on earth.

Romans 2:4 states that it is of God “goodness” that leads people to repentance. The average person, who has not been previously indoctrinated with the Christian teaching of eternal torment, would consider this a revelation of the goodness i fair justice for Him to punish “every minute” of disobedience with millions of years of painful torment and agony? I ask you to honestly ask yourself the following questions and try to answer them from an unbiased perspective.

If you have heard of some parents who locked their children in a dark and hot room for six months every time they had been disobedient; moreover, that once a day they put their children’s hands on a hot stove during the six months of punishment; Could anyone convince you that the punishment was justifiable, because the parents said that rebellion and disobedience were so offensive and repulsive in their eyes, which is the reason given by the advocates of eternal torment to justify the eternal torture of the lost? You will totally reject i denounce this reasoning, and you know it! However, Christian preachers present a Heavenly Father (God), who supposedly punishes billions of months for each act of disobedience; in addition, this Heavenly Father it doesn’t just burn your hands once a day, it burns your whole body non-stop, every second of every minute of every hour of every day throughout the billions of years of eternity! It is logical and consistent to declare in my illustration that the behavior of the parents is unjust, unloving, and sadistic, but simultaneously to declare that the behavior of a God, whose punishment is a billion times more severe and painful, is somehow fair and loving? ? This statement defies reason, logic and any sense of equitable justice.

If your child, spouse, or sibling was caught stealing a few DVDs, then brought before a judge, who gave your loved one the same life sentence he gave brutal murderers; Would you accept the judge’s argument that all violations of the law deserve the same punishment, because they all reflect the same selfish and disobedient spirit, which is the argument that eternal torment advocates use to justify their “one size fits all?” The eternal punishment of the lost? You know that you would absolutely and vehemently reject and oppose this irrational argument, and that you would consider such a decision and judicial declaration ridiculous; in addition, you would report that the judge’s sentence is grossly unfair. However, Christian preachers present a heavenly judge (God), who gives your lost loved ones the same sentence of eternal torment in hell that he gives genocidal maniacs like Hitler and Stalin. Weeping and gnashing of teeth throughout the billions of years of eternity will be the fate of your lost child, sibling or spouse, just as it will be for these mass murderers and even by the devil himselfaccording to the advocates of eternal torment.

Eternal torment preachers tell us that your lost loved one deserves the same eternal punishment in the flames of hell because God sees all sin the same way. This is not only ridiculous, but also contradicts the Bible. God does it no see all sins as the same. Jesus told Pilate that the sin of the religious leaders was bigger than the sin of Pilate (John 19:11). Paul told the Corinthians that they were tolerating a sexual sin in their church worse than the Gentiles would allow (1 Corinthians 5:1). And, it is common knowledge to any good student of the Bible, that there were many different punishments for many different sins recorded in the Old Testament. Some sins carried the death penalty, but not all. Some sins were classified as abominations, but not all. The apostle John states that there are sins that are “no to death”and also says that there is sin that “go to death” (1 John 5:16-17). Anyone who claims that God sees all sin the same way is either dishonest or seriously lacking in biblical knowledge.

The Bible says God has it no pleasure in the death of the wicked, and to ask them why they shall die (Ezekiel 33:11). The kind of God who does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked, does not punish them throughout the billions of years of eternity, as supposed justice for a life of seventy-five years of disobedience.
