How Is A 91 Years Old Veteran Still Healthy Mentally And Physically?

Mr. Woolfgang was born in the Boston area. He joined the army after World War II when he was 17 years old. His job was to drive visiting Japanese scientists right after the United States of America occupied Japan. He was so brave he didn’t even carry a gun. He served for a year right after World War II, then returned to Boston College to finish his engineering degree for free. After graduating from Boston College, he joined the United States Air Force and flew jet and commercial aircraft for over 15 years. He never had depression, anxiety or panic attacks. He drank two cups of coffee during the day and was able to stay calm even when he had to jump out of a plane in Rhode Island once after the plane’s engine developed some problems. When he got off the plane, his parachute didn’t open. He remained very calm, followed the procedure on how to use the parachute and was able to land in the Atlantic Ocean successfully. He later told his acupuncturist that he didn’t drink any coffee that morning, which made him even calmer. He didn’t eat very healthy when he was young, but he never indulged in anything because of his military training. He goes to bed early and gets up early. He loves a high salt and sugar diet and his two cups of coffee in the morning. He had been quite healthy until his 80s.

At the age of 80, he was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AF) and osteoarthritis at Newton Wellesley Hospital. His cardiologist prescribed a beta-blocker, an anticoagulant, and a high blood pressure medication as routine treatment for AF. He took the medicines for a few months; his heart rate became slower but still irregular. Gradually he noticed that the pain in his right knee was getting worse and both hands became more swollen. Her hands were less swollen in the morning before she started taking the medication. His fingers could not be lifted by late afternoon, due to swelling in the joints of his hands. Once, while waiting for her arthritis specialist at the Needham clinic, one of the patients in the waiting room recommended that she visit an acupuncturist in Needham. He has been an open-minded pilot and always willing to try something new. Although he lives far from Needham in downtown Boston, he was determined to reduce his knee pain and maintain good health so he could care for his wife and serve his church.

He started acupuncture in his 80s to reduce pain in his right knee. He came to our clinic in Needham 10 times once a week and his knee pain improved greatly. I only had stiffness when going up and down stairs. Then his acupuncturist in Needham decided to help him with AF with his once a month acupuncture visit in Needham. He was told to reduce his coffee to one cup or decaffeinated coffee. Initially, he said his cardiologist did not think AF was related to coffee. Her acupuncturist gave her two options: keep drinking coffee, then get a pacemaker with an anticoagulant forever, or change her habit and avoid the pacemaker. Mr Woolfgan decided to change and started drinking decaffeinated coffee when he turned 87. After a few months of acupuncture treatments at Needham, his heart rate became very regular and dropped to 50. When he returned to his cardiologist at Newton Wellesley Hospital, he was told that he could stop the dilution of blood and reduce your beta-blocker. dose in half so his heart rate could stay between 60 and 70. His cardiologist told mr. Woofgan that he is the only patient who was able to stop the anticoagulant during his more than 30 years of practice. Mr. Woolfgan noticed that once he reduced his beta blocker, his hand swelled much less. He was able to grip the golf club much better and his wrist pain level was dramatically reduced.

At the age of 86, Mr Woolfgan decided to have knee replacement surgery even though he had no knee pain, just stiffness when going up and down stairs. His orthopedic surgeon at Boston Medical Center told him his artificial knee would make him walk better. Her acupuncturist in Needham told her that if you don’t have knee pain and can walk without pain, please don’t get knee surgery. He strongly believed in his famous orthopedic surgeon in Boston and had knee surgery at the age of 87. After her knee surgery, her right knee was swollen like a balloon and at an angle she could barely bend. His orthopedic surgeon had to inject him with anesthesia, then two nurses had to hold his leg to straighten his right knee. The pain was excruciating during the procedure and she almost passed out. The angle of his right knee was reduced after this painful procedure, and his brain became hypersensitive to any kind of pain after this brutal procedure. However, being the tough guy that he is, he continued his acupuncture treatment in Needham and went to the gym every day to exercise his leg muscles. The knee pain finally went away, but the right knee still can’t fully straighten. When her acupuncturist asked if she wanted another knee replacement on her left knee, the answer was no.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Woolfgan and his wife were locked out of their independent living place in downtown Boston, so he left acupuncture treatment in Needham for three months. As soon as the blocking order was issued, he returned to his once-a-month acupuncture treatment. Now almost 92 years old, he still has a sharp memory and can walk without a cane. She is six feet four inches tall and hasn’t shrunk an inch. Recently, he got dizzy when he stood up too fast or stood still singing in church. Her acupuncturist told her to ask her cardiologist in Boston to adjust her medication. He reduced his beta blocker further and his dizziness went away. The small changes he made when he reached 90 include going back to his regular coffee sometimes. His heart rate remained around 60, but the irregular heartbeats returned whenever he drank regular coffee. Your acupuncturist can always tell if you drank decaffeinated or regular coffee. He also started drinking tea and more water because he had two surgeries to remove a malignant tumor from his bladder. Her acupuncturist told her that if she didn’t want a third bladder surgery, she should drink more water to flush her bladder.

In this case, Mr. Woolfgan was able to change her 80-year-old habit of drinking regular coffee that may have resulted in her needing a pacemaker. Surgery is always risky because when you cut through the skin and muscles of a 90-year-old person, their immune function will be compromised, so they can develop various types of other diseases. Our 91-year-old veteran has been very disciplined and has been able to exercise and sleep regularly. That is why he is mentally and physically healthy. In addition, Mr. Woolfgan still has pretty good vision without macular degeneration or glaucoma at her age because she was never a fan of eating too many nuts and spicy food, and she cut back on her salt and sugar intake after her acupuncturist advised her to . .
