As parents, our goal is always for our child to eat healthy food. On the contrary, children are known to be picky eaters and getting them to eat something healthy is a difficult task at times. We are constantly looking for recipes that are healthy and will help our baby gain weight. We should not rely only on the child’s weight chart to decide whether the baby is healthy or not. Skinny does not mean unhealthy, and in the same way, chubby is not a definition of health.

For moms, the real challenge is making healthy food choices seem appealing. Mentioned below are some foods that are healthy and nutritious, with these we will prepare a few recipes that your little ones will gobble up in a minute.

Khichdi:

This is considered one of the most nutritious and healthy first foods for young children. It is easy to make and different vegetables can be easily incorporated. It helps in gaining weight and is also easy to digest.

Ingredients:

• Rice/Dalia (half a cup),

• Moong Dal (half cup),

• Ghee (1 teaspoon),

• Cumin seeds (1/2 teaspoon)

• Vegetables: carrot, tomato, spinach, bottle guard, potato (cut into small pieces)

• Spices: salt, pepper and turmeric

• Water (1 cup)

Cooking time: 15 to 20 minutes

Recipe:

Sort, wash and soak the rice and dal in little water. Put ghee or butter in a pressure cooker and heat it, then add cumin seeds until it starts to pop. If you wish, you can also add a pinch of asafetida, which helps digestion. Then put all the vegetables in a pressure cooker and saute them for a while. Add all the spices like salt (as per taste), pepper (a pinch) and turmeric and let it simmer for a minute. Put the rice and dal and 1 cup of water. Give a couple of whistles and voila! A perfect meal is ready for your baby.

PS You can adjust the consistency of this dish as per your choice.

Oat Pancakes:

Ingredients:

• Powdered oats (half a cup) *** roast half a cup of oats for one minute and then grind them into a powder ***

• Fruits: banana, blueberry, apple, grape

• Nuts (chopped and roasted)

• Honey (2 teaspoons)

• Rice powder (half a cup)

• Baking powder (a pinch or two)

• Milk (1.5 cup)

Cooking time: 10 to 15 minutes

Recipe:

Mix oat powder, rice powder, sugar, salt, baking powder in a bowl. Pour in the milk and stir well. Put a pan on the fire and pour a few drops of butter. Pour a ladle full of prepared batter and spread it evenly in circular motions. Cook on medium heat on both sides and place on a plate. Top it with chopped fruit, dried fruit and a spoon full of honey.

Your healthy and delicious dessert is ready and your kids will love it.

PS: You can use chocolate syrup from time to time to change the taste. Put a dollop of peanut butter on top of a pancake, drizzle some chocolate syrup, and serve it to your little ones.

One of the best ways to get your little ones to eat a healthy meal is to work on the presentation.
