Bearded Dragon Baby – Top Tips to Take Care of Your Baby Beaded Dragon
If you have made the decision to buy or breed bearded dragons and have a baby bearded dragon to worry about, there are some general rules to follow to ensure they are safe, healthy and develop naturally to crush adult dragons.
Baby bearded dragons, like babies of any kind, will need extra care, especially in the areas of health and feeding, as they are more exposed than juveniles and adults. Bearded dragon eggs sometimes hatch over a period of 1-3 days.
The baby will use an egg tooth to cut the egg to break free from the egg. After almost all eggs have hatched, there may be some dragons that failed to hatch. If this is the case, you may need to carefully open the eggs with 2 cuticle scissors, but be very careful not to hurt the baby. Just cut a small slot in the head of the egg for the baby to spoil on its own. Leave the egg sac intact if it is still covering the baby as it will release when ready.
To feed a baby bearded dragon, be careful not to go too far. Overfeeding can put undue pressure on babies’ nerves, causing paralysis and possibly death. They will need a lot of food, but it is vital to try small frequent doses rather than larger meals. The best food for babies would be small crickets, mealworms or waxworms.
The insects should be gutted and coated with extra vitamin powder several times a week, before feeding the dragons, but you should coat the insects with calcium powder every day. Every second or third day, slowly introduce your baby bearded dragon to finely chopped or shredded vegetables in small amounts.
With juvenile bearded dragons, compared to your baby bearded dragon, there should be more plants and fewer insects entering the diet.
At this point they deserve to be offered plants every day instead of every other day. Then, when they reach around 9 months, insects should only be fed to your dragons, two or three times a week. The insects must still be small enough for children to handle. At this point, calcium additions can be reduced to every 2 or so days, and any vitamin additions can be reduced to just once every week.
If all these things are done with care and consideration for the health and expansion of your baby bearded dragon, there would be no reason for any problems. Your baby dragon should grow into a solid adult and then live for about ten years or more as a valuable member of yours.
