1. These little pets have a lifespan of 12-20 years. They weigh only between 1.1 and 1.5 kg. They are about 12-14 inches long and have a tail about 4-6 inches long. These are larger than ground squirrels and smaller than rabbits.
2. Chinchillas are quite active and female rodents are also known to be aggressive, especially with same-sex chinchillas. Females mature when they are 7 months old. They have a gestation period of 111 days and can have 1-2 babies per litter.
3. It is recommended to keep chinchillas in a cage. If they are kept outdoors, they may end up chewing on whatever they find.
4. Chinchillas need a good amount of forage in their diet. Therefore, green grass is the best food for them. Apart from the occasional treats can be given. These rodents are crepuscular in nature, that is to say; they are most active during dusk and dawn. Care must be taken to feed them according to their habits.
