Dry Car Wash: 8 Mistakes to Avoid When Using It
Worried that dry car washing might scratch your car or otherwise produce poor results? As long as you avoid the following 8 mistakes, you’re sure to get amazing, long-lasting results whenever you use a waterless wash and wax product on your vehicle.
1. Use any old cloth to clean your car
To maximize the results of the spray on car wax and wash, use a 100% cotton terry cloth to wipe the formula after spraying it on your vehicle, then use a microfiber towel to buff the remaining wax mist. Other types of rags or rags just don’t work as well.
2. Scrub too vigorously
After spraying the waterless wash on your vehicle, rub it lightly and in a circular motion with a terry cloth. Do not scrub too vigorously as you could end up scratching the surface of your vehicle. For best results, clean and lift.
3. Use cleaning products without water on a vehicle that is too dirty
If your car is stuck with mud or sand, rinse off the dirt first before applying the dry car wash. Waterless wax is effective on light to moderate dirt, but the formula cannot realistically be expected to remove an extremely heavy layer of dirt.
4. Not letting the solution soak long enough
Are there scratch marks, tar, sap or insects on the surface of the car? Allow the car wax spray to spread over the surface of the car for a few minutes before wiping it off with a terry cloth.
5. Not changing the towels
For best results, keep a few extra terry cloths and microfiber towels on hand in case the ones you’re using get too wet or dirty while you’re working on your vehicle.
6. Do not store microfiber towels
One of the benefits of using a dry car wash is that you can save the microfiber towels you use to buff away the wax mist in a sealed Ziploc bag. You can reuse microfiber towels between washes to clean your car and keep it looking nice and shiny.
7. Wash the car once in a blue moon
For maximum results, you should aim to wash and wax your car once a month. Cleaning your car regularly will protect the paint and prevent it from being damaged by road salt, bird droppings, dead insects and other harmful elements.
Luckily, washing and waxing your car will only take you up to 30 minutes if you use spray on car wax that doubles as a waterless cleaner. The more often you use a waterless cleaning product on your car, the brighter and stronger its protective coating will become.
8. Use waterless detailing products that do not contain carnauba wax
There are a variety of waterless wash and wax products, and their active ingredients vary widely. For optimal results, use a dry car wash made with carnauba wax. Carnauba wax is the favorite ingredient among auto detailers because it protects the paint, creates a hydrophobic surface and deepens the shine.
