Food Additives That Cause Insomnia, Restlessness and Anxiety

So you think fresh fruits and vegetables are good for your health? Maybe not. o The common bread preservative (or mold inhibitor) 282. Symptoms of calcium propionate (282) (resulting from consuming large amounts of bread) may include difficulty falling asleep, walking at night, night terrors, unexplained fatigue, depression, irritability, growing pains, bedwetting, nasal congestion and restlessness;

o Arousal, depression, restlessness, irritability (320 BHA Buylated Hydroxyanisole antioxidant – banned in Japan and may not be listed in products containing less than 5% vegetable oils);

o Salicylates. There is a salicylates fact sheet which includes information on tinnitus, reversible hearing loss, vertigo, symptoms of Meniere’s disease, insomnia, behavioral changes in children. Particularly interesting is the information that “good old fruits and vegetables” are not always good at all. Learn about low-salicylate versus high-salicylate fruits and vegetables, and how to control your intake;

o Awakening in young children (staining 102 Tartrazine and staining 110 Sunset Yellow);

o 621 monosodium glutamate MSG flavor enhancer. Restlessness, wakefulness and irritability; and

o 951 aspartame artificial sweetener – prohibited for US Air Force pilots. Mood alteration (anxiety, agitation, irritability, depression), insomnia, fatigue.

It’s also very unfortunate that some harmful food additives don’t have to be declared on product labels – so you’ll have to investigate further to find out exactly which breads are the ones that don’t contain the food additive linked to depression etc. .
