If you’ve hit a tan plateau and noticed you’re not getting darker, you might want to try a tingling lotion. Additionally, it is recommended that only tanners with a developed base tan use stinging lotions. So if it’s your first time tanning, it’s probably best to avoid stinging lotions.

When using stinging lotions for the first time, there may be side effects such as your skin becoming slightly reddish, blotchy or burning. Don’t worry, it will go away in about an hour. If you find the tingling sensation unbearable, you may want to take a shower to wash off the lotion. Also, it’s best to try tingling lotions in moderation. So the first time you use tingling lotions, you may want to use a very small amount or mix it with an existing lotion. Then, with each tanning session, increase the amount of tingling lotion you use.
