Anti Aging – Tips For Staying Younger Longer

Although we can’t reverse the aging process or even stop or slow it down, we can help ourselves look younger for longer. What do I mean? Our lifestyles and habits are the biggest influences on how we look, and even how quickly or slowly we age. By changing our own lifestyles, we can both look and feel younger.

One of the most influential of all our lifestyle routines that tends to affect how we look and how others perceive our real age is our stress levels. Many people overwork themselves, can’t find time to exercise or even relax, and in fact don’t even get at least five full hours of sleep each night. We all know that, because it even describes our own lives, right? So what does this have to do with how we look and feel? The answer is everything. One of the reasons we age is that our body becomes inefficient at producing the required hormones in the required quantities, and often the absence of a set of a series of reactions or chain reactions.

Growth hormone is one of the hormones generated by our body while we sleep. A lack of sleep would mean less growth hormone in the body, which would be a signal to the brain that our aging process has begun. This in turn would signal increased hormone releases for insulin and decreased hormone releases for other hormones such as melatonin and DHEA. These would indeed lead to signs of aging such as increased risk of diabetes, restless sleep and fat accumulation, among others.

Another one of our lifestyle habits that affects our appearance is our social habits. Smoking for one is known to add years to a person’s age, mainly because smoking releases free radical toxins into our body which speed up the aging process. Free radicals are produced naturally by our bodies, but habits such as smoking and increased exposure to sunlight can force the release of more radicals than normal in our bodies. Free radicals have been proven to contribute to aging by attacking the cellular structures of all organs in our body. Most visible is the skin, where you can see the degradation of the skin’s cellular structure through its loss of elasticity and underlying structure.

Finally, exercise is probably the most influential but least recognized of all the habits that can affect how we look at our age. Unlike the first two above which stimulate our aging process, exercise actually works the other way around to slow it down. It works too. When we exercise, we keep our bodies fit and get rid of toxic chemicals faster, thereby releasing internal stress from our bodies and extending the lifespan of each individual cell. Moreover, exercise also keeps our mind in shape. When we cleanse the body from within, our minds automatically feel liberated and cleansed, which undoubtedly has the subconscious effect of making us feel younger, stronger and more relaxed.
