How to Lose Baby Weight Fast, Safely & For Good
One of the most common questions women ask after giving birth is “How can I lose weight fast?” However, the problem is that losing baby weight (and any weight) quickly isn’t the safest or best method. Usually, women who turn to crash diets end up gaining weight again, and very quickly.
No, you won’t lose your baby weight in a week or even 2, but it doesn’t take long to get back to pre-pregnancy weight bliss. If you follow a good diet and fitness plan, you should have no problem losing weight quickly and keeping it off completely.
This is exactly how I lost my baby weight. It didn’t take long for me either, but I needed a program to give me the guidance and direction I was looking for in order to lose the baby weight safely and without affecting my production of milk (this is another important reason why you shouldn’t consider crash dieting!).
One of the first things I learned about losing baby weight was not to rush, but to exercise when I felt up to it and ready. It can take up to 6 months for your body to recover after pregnancy and you need to keep that in mind! It is therefore important to take your time to exercise. Starting with some low-impact exercises or just going for brisk walks with your baby (in a sling will also give you resistance!) will get you started. That’s what I did. Walking and holding my baby in a sling was nice, and it also soothed him when he had colic (and also recently when he was teething). So even just going out when your baby is upset would be a good goal to start with.
Another thing everyone will tell you is to breastfeed! Not only does this help shrink your uterus to its normal size quickly, but it will also help you lose weight much faster (and of course, it’s better for your baby). Much of the extra weight we gain during pregnancy was there to help prepare us for breastfeeding. Of course, it’s not everyone’s option, but by not breastfeeding it will inevitably be a little more difficult to shed those extra pounds. It definitely paid off for me.
Eating low fat foods will also help you lose weight fast. Ask your husband or a family member to help you prepare nutritious foods, not only to help you lose weight, but also to help you maintain your energy levels for your new bundle of joy! Keep it simple. It doesn’t have to be complicated and eating lots of fruit before your meals (fruit is digested much faster than any other food and eating before a meal will be better for your digestion). That’s probably the hardest part, it’s been for me. There’s so much information floating around and as a new mum I haven’t had time to really figure out what I should be eating – having a newborn is such an important event. That’s why following a program has really helped me.
When you give birth you lose a lot of weight very quickly and find that you are already wearing clothes that you couldn’t wear before. It can give you a jump start to start your weight loss quest. Find a low impact diet and exercise program and you’ll be amazed at how much leaner you’ll be in weeks. Not only will you be slimmer, but people will notice it – people will expect you to be exhausted all the time and have no time, but you may pleasantly surprise them! This will propel you further into your new life as a healthy mother! It’s not unrealistic to have lost your pregnancy weight in a matter of months – I did, and quite easily with a structured program.
