So why all the fuss? Why are people starting to talk more and more about the fact that eating meat is bad for human health? Are they all just boring greenies? Above the top activists jumping on any old band wagon that passes? Or could there be some truth to the idea that eating meat is bad for the human body? And if so, why have we been taught for so many years that animal products are good for us? Do you want to achieve your health goals? Stick with me, we’ll cover this in detail.

For years people thought the world was flat. It wasn’t until brave sailors pushed the boundaries of understanding that the human race began to understand that the earth is a sphere.

People were absolutely certain that denser-than-air objects would never fly. This understanding was shattered when adventurous souls dared to attempt the impossible and use machines to fly through the air.

For centuries people believed that there was a sun god and when they displeased this sun god he punished them with bad weather and a bad harvest that year. Today, very few human beings have this belief.

For years people believed that there was no harm in smoking. Some even believed that smoking was good for your health. Nowadays it is widely accepted that smoking, even passively, will shorten the years of a human life and cause disease along the way.

I believe there will come a time in the next few decades (hopefully sooner) when people will watch eating meat with the same pitiful smile or look of disbelief they have when thinking of the poor souls who thought that smoking was okay, or that an angry sun god was responsible for the weather. Honestly, this day couldn’t come soon enough! If people are serious about achieving their health goals, this change needs to happen.

For people who eat meat as a staple in their diet, whenever this topic comes up, the usual initial response is “meat gives me my protein, my iron, my energy, helps me build muscle , people have been doing it for thousands of years, all animals do it, it’s natural, that’s why we have canines.’

If anyone can get past their absolute belief that it is good for them and natural to eat meat, the next and obvious question that arises is, “Then why were we taught that eating meat is good for us? Big question!

Why have we been taught for decades that consuming animal products is good for us? We’ll talk about that later in this article, but for now, suffice it to say that there are 2 main reasons for this kind of misunderstanding. The first is ignorance which can lead to believing that what they are teaching you is correct. The second is that the person telling you the lie is doing so because they have another agenda.

In the case of meat consumption, the other objective very often boils down to the net profit of the livestock companies. Woe to anyone who gets his net profits for something so unimportant as the health of the human race!

So before jumping on my platform and dissuading you from reading the rest of this article, allow me to tell you that I will not only speak from my opinion, I will share with you facts that you can decipher as you see fit. If this article does nothing more than entertain you for 10 minutes, so be it. If, however, it takes you out of your ignorance of the facts and helps you understand the devastating effects your food choices are having on your health and that of your family, then I’ll be happy.

The protein myth…

This seems to be one of the first objections people have when they have at least a semi-serious idea of ​​not eating meat or at least reducing the amount they eat. We’ve had this myth inside of us so deeply and for so long that virtually every adult I talk to knows we need protein and we need to eat meat to get enough.

Nothing could be further from the truth though. The idea that we have to eat meat for protein and that we have to eat the amounts that are promoted is shear madness. There is no truth in it and the people who promote this idea to us have a profit to make when we buy their products. This is why it is always important to question the intention of the person who is telling you something. If they have an agenda to serve themselves, you may not be able to trust the information.

For example, the standard recommendation in the developed world ranges between 10 and 50 percent of your daily calorie intake should come from protein and, in particular, animal protein in the form of meat and dairy products. The problem with these numbers is that anything above 10-15% starts to defy all honest and unbiased evidence. To achieve health goals, it takes far less than the people who benefit from it will ever suggest.

Here is what some unbiased scientists have to say:

The American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition – recommends that approximately 2.5% of our daily caloric intake should be protein.

The World Health Organization – recommends that around 4.5% of our daily calorie intake should be protein.

The National Research Council in the United States – recommends that just over 8% of our daily caloric intake should come from protein. The NRC has even allowed a significant margin to account for what it believes to be 98% of the population. The number would be less than 8% without this additional caveat. So 8% is considered completely safe.

These types of results are typical of studies produced by unbiased parties. When scientists who really enjoy finding what is healthy for the human race undertake such a study, the results usually fall somewhere in this category. Studies produced by organizations that have a direct or indirect link to any large organization that will suffer a loss of sales if the truth about protein intake becomes public knowledge often report higher numbers.

Of all the meats, studies show that beef, steak in particular, has the highest concentration of iron the animal world has to offer. In a 100 calorie serving of sirloin steak, you can expect to find 1.9 milligrams of iron. Compare that to the following list of 100 calorie vegetable and fruit servings:

Spinach = 11.3

Beet greens = 11.2

Cucumber = 6.0

Iceburg lettuce = 3.8

Broccoli = 3.1

Zucchini/zucchini = 2.7

Strawberries = 2.7

Tomatoes = 2.4

Lemons = 2.0

These are just some of the fruits and vegetables that have more iron content than the highest supplier on the meat and dairy side. So if you think you need meat for its iron content, think again!! To achieve your health goals, all you have to do is eat your vegetables and you will have all the protein your body needs.

Not only do meat and dairy products provide inadequate nutrition, but they also contain a whole host of naughtiness that people tend to know a little about but seem reluctant to do anything about.
