Insight Into 3MD Weight Loss Program

In recent years, the so-called 3MD diet is gaining popularity. This diet is also known as the 90 day separation diet. It is based on two 90-day diet periods. The main benefits of this diet should be; clear and easy to follow rules and proven results (weight loss between 40 and 55 pounds). Other results promised by the 3MD diet include a decrease in sensitivity to weather conditions and positive changes in metabolism.

Although many people find it easy to believe these claims, there really is no in-depth explanation in medical or physical terms how this diet should actually work. Also, after the end of this 3MD diet, the weight gains return. Switching from the 3MD diet to our previous nutritional models makes people gain weight again. The success of the 3® diet is based on the following assumptions:

– We are all subject to a daily nutritional cycle (does not explain what it is).

– We need the right combination of foods – following precise rules set for each day (protein day, carb day, starch day, fruit day) and every 29 days there is what it is called the “day of water” or day of fasting.

Following these two presumptions, one should lose weight regardless of the number of calories one consumes daily. The menus prescribed by the inventors of the 3MD diet are quite strict “2 oranges”, “3 pieces of cake”, “smaller chicken”, “dinner is half of lunch”,… but without mentioning what type of cake , how big a piece should be, what parts of the chicken, how “high in carbs” the lunch is, nothing about the caloric value of foods to eat.

Many additional rules accompany this diet. There are indeed some healthy tips among them: how to use olive oil, salt restriction, advice to consult a doctor. Exercise, which is the cornerstone of every serious diet in the world, deserved only an obscure mention, even a far cry from what it takes to lose weight for real. This sad fact makes the 3MD diet even more popular with overweight people. These people are stuck in a bind of repetitive weight gain after completing this diet. Moreover, this diet does not offer any explanation on the principles of its effectiveness.

Why is it so important to separate foods on specific days and to separate nutrients?

How exactly is this going to make us lose fat?

The daily separation cycle according to 3MD consists of a strict diet from 8 p.m. to noon the next day. During this period, only fruit and drinking water are allowed. It does not mean anything. These 16 hours represent 2/3 of the whole day. And you don’t have to starve your body for 16 hours a day. Every body that undergoes such a period of daily fasting becomes more sensitive to the energy buildup of every bite we take. The messages that our body reports to our brain are to reduce energy consumption and to take advantage of the lack of energy by draining the energy stored in the muscles. We force our body to start breaking down our muscle mass. It is not good news.

Muscles, when in motion, are the main energy (fat) burner of the body. So we’re actually weakening the only “tool” that can help us get rid of fat.

3MD gives no explanation as to why we should be eating carbs one day and protein the next. The problem is that the “fruit” day and the “starch” day are also “carbohydrate” days. The sugar in fruit and the complex sugar in starch are just two different kinds of the same thing: carbohydrates. While we can somehow understand fruit day (healthy sugar), it’s hard to make sense of the separation of “starch” day and “carb” day (complex sugars and refined). And there is a rule that you can have wholemeal bread with chicken, which contradicts any healthy weight loss program (don’t mix protein (chicken) with carbs (bread)).

The 3MD diet works in the short term. But the weight loss is the consequence of the water that our body loses with this diet. 3MD is extremely popular because it does not prohibit eating calorie bombs like chocolate. The other short-term positive effect of this diet is that it somehow regulates daily eating habits. People are disciplined by force. This makes it much easier to fall back into old eating habits as soon as 90 days are up.
