Products We Use That Help Eliminate Side Effects

I would like to start by saying that this is in no way intended to solicit you to buy the products that we used for our little Emma. I am writing this to give you an overview of what we have done and what has worked for all the side effects that we have been told will be part of his treatments.

Here is our story. On July 2, 2010 my wife took Emma (who was 4 1/2 at the time) for a doctor’s appointment as she looked a little pale and we noticed a few spots on her neck which did not were not normal. Our doctor called a pediatrician and he advised us to do a blood test as soon as possible. This happened at our local hospital at 4pm and by 6pm we were back at the hospital where we were told she had high risk B cell ALL (an extremely high white blood cell count ). Our lives changed in an instant as you all know. By 9 p.m., my wife and daughter were on their way to BC Childrens Hospital to begin her treatments immediately.

For work, my wife and I operate a home-based business as Independent Herbalife Distributors (an international health and wellness company). I tell you all this to show you certain things. This disease has no harm as it will afflict anyone; young, old, healthy or sick. Emma has never had major ailments and very few simple colds since she was born. We put her on natural supplements for children and she voluntarily started taking a morning shake every day. This turned out to be a good thing because while she was in the hospital she didn’t want to eat ‘real’ food, but we were able to maintain her strength with the good nutrition from the shakes. Of course, we made sure with the doctors that what we were giving her did not conflict with the medications she was receiving.

Secondly, we have been able to continue working because our business is done over the internet, telephone and other simple methods, which means that we have not had to take time off from our “work” or leave them completely for be with Emma during this time. We have heard of so many others who have struggled financially and with employment issues because of it. After speaking with other parents of children in the hospital and clinic, as well as others in our church who had children with the same disease, we made the decision to do all the treatments of Emma where the care is best, at BC Childrens Hospital. This meant we had to leave the island, which was a difficult but necessary decision. Again, we were able to do this with very little disruption to our business (which also means our income), while still being available for Emma.

So here’s what we’ve done for Emma over the past 9 months – I can’t believe it’s been so long already – and what happened. Every morning, she takes an Herbalife meal replacement consisting of ½ cup of water and 1 cup of milk. As lack of appetite is one of the side effects we had to make sure she was getting the proper nutrition for the day and as these provided it we were glad she still had it. Another good thing is that while she is taking steroids, she does not gain as much weight due to the cravings caused by them. This jolt also gave him a lot of energy which the doctors are very impressed with. Another side effect is nausea and constipation. For this, she uses herbal aloe concentrate – which comes in a regular or mango flavor which she goes between depending on her tastes which change when she has chemotherapy treatments. It is a liquid you drink that protects and heals your bowels and prevents other internal problems. During a visit to the hospital she was on a high dose of methotrexate and they decided to give her a stool softener and against our better judgment we agreed. She developed blisters and burns on her buttocks from it so bad they prescribed morphine for the pain. We increased the doses of aloe, applied petroleum jelly and kept it clean, and in three days it was all sorted. Doctors and nurses continue to be amazed at Emma’s lack of side effects and how she handles her procedures. She is active and normally has a smile on her face, but she has odd days when she is tired and in a bad mood from drugs.

My suggestion for anyone going through treatments or having someone they love, find themselves these products: A healthy meal replacement shake that tastes great and has a good amount of nutrients for the day. You have to keep your strength up and good nutrition is essential for that. A liquid aloe product that you can take as it will calm your stomach and help prevent nausea and constipation. Aloe will also help with mouth sores that may accompany chemo pills you take at home. We are willing to answer any questions regarding what has worked for us as well as any other nutritional questions you may have, just send me a message at [email protected] and my wife and I will get back to you.
