5 Tips on How to Lose Weight and Look Your Best EASILY!

5 Tips to help you lose weight and look your best EASILY!

We all want to look and feel our best, but quite often we don’t know where to start. So, to welcome everyone into 2010 and a new decade, I thought I’d compile a short report on 5 EASY tips to help us all get started and get back on track for a vibrant healthy year.

1. SUPERFOODS

Don’t be put off, I think of our common everyday foods that are actually serious weapons in our fat arsenal. Things like –

Water

Green tea

Apples and pears

Oatmeal

Broccoli

Low fat yogurt

Grapefruit

Hot peppers

Lean Beef, Pork, Chicken, and Turkey (lean protein – tofu counts too)

Salmon, Tuna and Sardines (omega 3 you can also get from flax seeds)

Homemade soup

All these foods (and I include water as food) help to stimulate our metabolism so that our body burns more energy. These are furnace stokers so to speak. Some can be eaten throughout the day when we feel the need for a snack, because they also help to fill up, but they are low in calories. Some of them have the incredible ability to help remove toxins, like water and apples. I’ve gone through these foods and others in other reports – just sign up for the free e-letter every week to make sure you get them.

Oh, and the occasional red wine or royal ale won’t hurt – just don’t go overboard and they’re full of empty calories and, obviously, contain alcohol which stimulates the appetite and also taxes the liver.

2. EXERCISE

Okay, I know, not everyone walks away hot and sweaty after playing around the block a couple of times. But exercise doesn’t have to be boring or “hard work.” It can be as fun as dancing in the hall to your favorite group or learning some martial arts – and before you start to tremble at visions of ninja warriors, Tai Chi is also a martial art.

Exercise increases metabolic rate, improves circulation, increases bone density, tones and strengthens muscles, burns calories among many, many, other things. Just 20 minutes a day can make a world of difference.

Here are some ideas to see how exercise can fit into your life

Swimming – lengths of a pool, water aerobics….

Dance – ballroom, disco, salsa, belly, front room…

Running, jogging, brisk walking

Vigorous housework – tidying, dusting, ironing

Work in the garden, dig, remove

Walking the dog, walking to work, walking the stairs, running away from the dog… (hey kids…)

Join a class – Tai chi, yoga, Pilates

Join a gym, using light weights

Make love

Anything that makes us move is a form of exercise, so if you have little time to incorporate walking into your day, stop after work for a class once a week. Exercise also strengthens and strengthens, so after a while you should see the benefits. If you’re a solitary type, take up walking, jogging or dancing in the front room/bedroom.

Ideally, 20 minutes a day and a couple of 1-hour periods a week will help keep you in top condition.

3. SPRING CLEANING

Not many people talk about it, but your home makes a big difference when you’re trying to lose some weight. When things are disorganized around us, we tend to become less focused and more disorganized ourselves. A good clean and spring clean not only increases the calories burned, but also helps to make room for us to clean internally. It makes us more comfortable – when there is a level of chaos around us, it is much harder to focus on ourselves and our needs and much easier to fall back on old habits. Also, by taking care of our surroundings, it is usually much easier to take charge of ourselves.

4. SLEEP

Getting enough sleep is essential. When you start to change your eating habits and exercise, your body needs more rest to rebuild and rejuvenate. A positive change in the diet will cause the body to initially remove the waste, so cough, cold, feel cold and feel a little more tired than usual is to be experienced. Try not to turn to pharmaceuticals to suppress the symptoms of a little cold, because this only stuffs the junk back down again. Try something else like honey, lemon and warm water to soothe cold symptoms. And rest. It helps the body to remove this junk and rebuild it in a stronger, fresher model. Normally, as you get older and your body becomes lighter and lighter, you will need less sleep.

5. EAT MORE!

Yes, you read that right, eat more! By that I mean frequent meals and highly nutritious snacks. Don’t skip meals. You will not lose weight by starving yourself, in fact, the exact opposite will happen as the body will begin to store. A bowl of fruit and cereal (oats/muesli etc) with low-fat yogurt in the morning, a large portion of vegetables/salad, (without the mayo…!) lean protein such as lean meat, fish, tofu and a spud jacket. (without the cheese and butter!), a whole grain rice dish with vegetables and lean protein, and snacks from our superfood list with a couple of liters of water a day will make you lose weight in no time. If you can’t stand pure water (bottled or filtered is better – DO NOT touch it) try squeezing some citrus, lemon or orange juice. In fact, a glass of hot water with the juice of half a lemon in the drink before the morning is very cleansing and start the day in perfect. Or even better a spoonful of apple cider vinegar in a glass of hot water, cut with a teaspoon of honey.

Some people find it hard during the day – take your lunch and snacks with you. Prepare a rice salad, a thermos of homemade soup or a meal that you can put in the microwave – food in the microwave is not ideal because it depletes the food of nutrients, but it is still much better than snacking on a sandwich and chips…

If you like vegetables, grab some vegetables like carrots, celery, tomatoes and cucumbers and make a dip with low-fat yogurt and chives or cottage cheese.

Experiment and have fun with your food, but stay away from the high fat/high sugar, processed stuff.
