What Every Lady Should Know About Confinement

Every woman spends a lot of time preparing to give birth to a child and preparing their home to welcome the new addition to their family, but many do not know how to prepare for the coming confinement period. Most find themselves completely unprepared and taken by surprise of what it’s really like to be a confinement woman. You can avoid the drama by preparing in advance for this line period.

One thing that many women are not willing to deal with is the lack of sleep that comes with confinement. A newborn baby needs care throughout the day and most need to be fed every two hours. Some children may sleep a little more than others, but it is basic human nature for them to take a couple of hours of rest and then require food to be able to continue the next few hours of rest.

Those sleeping habits are not in sync with the typical sleeping habits of an adult woman, so confinement can be a period of mental and physical exhaustion if you try to do everything by yourself. Having a husband or other children on hand can take some pressure, but they will have their own schedules to tend to and they will also become fast.

That’s why most confinement women have hired nurses on hand to help take care of the needs of the newborn. This is especially important during the first month of the baby’s life, since many babies settle into a more routine sleeping schedule after a few weeks.

It is important to understand that newborn babies wake up so often because they have an insatiable need for nourishment. They may need diaper changes and love to be hugged and kept warm, but their first concern in life is to make sure their stomachs stay full and they feel loved and well-nourished. That is why most of the confinement period is spent feeding the baby.

Many new moms eventually discover that feeding times are great times to bond with baby. You may think of the dark hours of the night and the very early morning as a time you don’t want to be awake, but those times can be very special when it’s just you and the baby awake. Touching them, feeling them close, and looking into their sleepy eyes will bond you like nothing else in life, so take advantage of it and enjoy it, no matter how tired you feel.

Another thing that every woman should be encouraged to do in confinement is to talk to her child. Do not think that you have to keep all your thoughts in your head, since your child cannot speak or understand what you say. Talk freely about what is on your mind so that the child gets used to hearing your voice and begins to learn how to communicate. Yes, even in the first weeks of birth they can learn by listening to talk!

One last thing that all women should know before entering confinement is that babies are not rolled. Many women go into confinement afraid to move their baby in any way because they don’t want to hurt them, but babies are actually tougher than we give them credit for. Treat them with love and care and you’ll be fine!
