My Personal Favorite Affordable Camping Supplies, Chairs, Tents, and Gadgets For Camping
I have always been one for outdoor activities. Several years ago, my friends and I started an annual camping trip that was initially for my birthday and over time, it turned into an annual camping trip just for fun, for no particular reason. The first years we started to live, we started sleeping in a big tent for 12 people with all the poles and supports, taking a bunch of us to put it up and spend almost a good 20-30 minutes. We only went to a couple of different areas and the level of preparation we were at was about a 2 out of 10. In our most recent years we went to the music festival that is Coachella and to say the least we were amazed at how beautiful it was. the configurations of our friend were.
It wasn’t until we were introduced to the idea of ”glamping” that we decided to step up our camping game. While the equipment we were using had improved slightly, the way we were going about planning was delayed for some upgrades. We were completely pampered during our time camping at Coachella. While we were there squeezing 4 people into a small tent, all of our friends had these big pop up tents with inflatable air mattresses, memory foam padding, night stands and even area rugs.
Lately, we’ve been camping almost every month this year. We like to explore and go north to the Sequoias and sometimes even around Orange County. It was a bit difficult driving after work to our campsite and struggling to set up our tent in the dark. Today, Costco along with many sporting goods stores have affordable tents that take less than a minute to set up. These tents are worth every dollar that I have spent with many of my friends and the best part is that they are built exceptionally well and so convenient that one person could easily set them up under minimal lighting. (The added benefit is buying from Costco, as they have an insanely good return policy – they practically take back anything purchased from them) These pop up tents are quite affordable and compared to the old cane and pole tents they are a toss up. What could be more convenient than a moderately priced tent that goes from stowed to fully set up in seconds? A portable shower.
You haven’t been glamping before if you haven’t been able to take a nice refreshing shower from a real portable shower. This portable shower brought us a lot of comfort for a small price. You can buy it from Amazon or many other online stores. It is battery powered and has a filter on the end of the pump to keep the shower head from the floor pump, other unwanted or clogging things. The water pressure comes out like a regular water line in the house and in times where it is extremely hot this easily becomes the main attraction. The only addition you need other than batteries can be purchased for a few dollars at places like Home Depot. 5 gallon buckets work perfectly and you will be surprised how long that bucket of water lasts when dispensed from a battery powered showerhead.
After cooling off in the shower, we just want to lie down and lay in the sun (or not if it’s too hot!) The most comfortable chairs we’ve found are the zero-gravity chairs with the little folding tables attached. These can recline so that you are flat and the child is comfortable. Sure, typical folding camp chairs are nice enough, but they can’t recline or adjust like zero-gravity ones. If this chair still isn’t comfortable enough and you want to take a quick nap, why not lie down on your super comfortable air mattress?
Now, you’re probably thinking… Why do we have an air mattress? Why don’t we use a good old sleeping bag? Have you ever had to sleep on a flat sleeping bag with almost no pillow under you? That has to be one of the most uncomfortable things to do and in the morning you wake up with aches and pains…not a fun time. Using a blow up air mattress has to be the biggest camping change we’ve made, but for the better.
These are just a few pieces of gear that I would suggest to really step up your camping game. Not only can all of these items be purchased for a relatively cheap price, but you can find most, if not all of these items online, in the comfort of your own home. Whether you are a minimalist or a glamper, this equipment can completely change the way you live. The comfort of these items can help you achieve that peaceful rest and relaxation that should always be associated with a successful camping trip.
